Sunderland Association Football Club (The Black Cats) is an association of professional football club based in Sunderland England, Tyne and Wear who competes in the Premier League. Founded in 1879, their uniforms are red and white. This club plays home games at the Stadium of Light. Sunderland team won their first FA Cup in 1937 with a 3-1 victory over Preston North End, and remained in the top league for the 68th consecutive season, losing to Arsenal’s record when they delivered in 1958. Sunderland’s most important trophy to win after the Second World War was the second FA Cup in 1973, when the club secured a 1-0 win over Leeds United. This team has won the title five times in the second tier that period and third-tier title once. Sunderland has a long rivalry with their neighbors club Newcastle United, Sunderland in the 2006/2007 season, playing in The Championship after they were relegated from the English Premier League.
